The Goodman Theatre
Mr. and Mrs. William O. Goodman founded the Goodman Theatre in 1925, as a tribute to their son, the playwright Kenneth Sawyer Goodman. Three of Goodman’s plays were staged on October 20, 1925 at the opening ceremony of the theatre: The Green Scarf, Back of the Yards and The Game of Chess. Only two days later, the Goodman Theatre started to perform for the public, staging John Galsworthy's The Forest. In 2000, 75 years after its opening, the Goodman Theatre moved into a new and splendid home in the North Loop Theatre District.
For young people who wish to become actors, playwrights or directors, the Goodman Theatre has prepared the free Student Subscription Series. Almost 2,700 students and 75 teachers have been included in this program for the season 2005-2006.
The Goodman Artistic Collective includes great personalities such as Chuck Smith, Regina Taylor, Mary Zimmerman, Robert Falls, Frank Galati and Henry Godinez. Renowned directors, actors, playwrights and designers have made Chicago’s residents and visitors love the Goodman Theater. Now it’s your turn to be charmed by the theatre’s great performances.
