Philip Porter National Museum and Gallery
The Historic Pullman District houses a museum dedicated to celebrating the contribution of African-Americans to the history of the United States. In 1995, Lyn Hughes opened the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. Founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, Asa Philip Randolph fought for the rights of African-American workers.
Find out more about what this great American did at our traveling exhibit. The exhibit features photos that present the struggle between A. Philip Randolph and George Pullman, the owner of the Pullman Rail Car Co. The struggle went on for twelve years and, in 1937, the Pullman Porters finally got a labor contract. But A. Philip Randolph didn’t stop here. In 1941, he fought to obtain jobs for the African-Americans in the United State’s defense.
There are many interesting things for you to find out here. And if our museum interests you, we invite you to join us and become a member of the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum.
You may visit the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum from 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday and from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday. The admission is only 2 dollars.
